The person raving about it in the lunchroom and the person who quietly gave up in week two are running identical software. The difference between them is almost entirely what they type into the box. Twenty years of Google has trained us to type three keywords and hit enter. Copilot works the other way around. Microsoft's own guidance is blunt about it: unlike traditional search, Copilot responds best to detailed prompts. Give it three words and you get something generic. Give it a proper brief and you get something you can actually use. The good news is that writing a proper brief is not a dark art. It is a small, learnable habit, and by the end of this module you will have it, plus a set of ready-made prompts to keep within arm's reach. The new-hire way to think about it Treat Copilot like a bright new hire on their first morning. Keen, quick, surprisingly capable, and with absolutely no idea what you actually meant. Say "summarise the meeting" and you will get the digital equivalent of a polite shrug. Tell it which meeting, what you missed, and what you need the summary for, and it will hand you something genuinely useful before the kettle boils.
